Omega's Picks: Autograph's Versatile Dress

Omega's Picks: Autograph's Versatile Dress

I'm going to let the picture do the talking today - this is on sale for $59 at Autograph at the moment. They call it "The Versatile Dress" and it certainly would be. I would wear the HECK out of this - it's one of those pieces that would really suit my figure and the style of it could go day-to-night very easily.

Three great wearable colours to choose from.. if you've got $60 to spend you wouldn't regret this purchase.

FOTD: Silver Swirls

Here's an over the top look I did for a club night not so long ago..I used my Illamasqua Skin Base here - in the light colour I normally use just for highlighting. I was going for a very very pale and washed out look for this, as a pale canvas for what I had planned next.

Then, I went all out with the silvers in my collection... I did darker colours on the inner corner of my eye and under my lower lash to make my eyes look bigger, under the eyebrow I went for a white-silver and then shaded greys across my eyelid. I topped it all off with a very generous amount of silver microglitter.

I even wore a WHITE jacket. it's the only one I own. Will show it in an outfit post soon.

The makeup though, is all here - as you can see I did some really heavy shading, extending the colour all the way around my cheeks and across my cheekbones. Not an everyday technique but it gave me the otherworldy robot look I was going for here.

Omega's Picks: QueenGrace.com

I stumbled across this online retailer the other day, and I really liked their designs. I find it quite difficult to find smart looking corporate wear in plus sizes, and there is (as you can see) more than one lovely option here. I was even more delighted to see they ship to Australia!

What do you think? Like these??

Aussie Curves: Red

This week's theme? RED. Red like blood, like roses, like apples.. the colour of passion, love, rage and lust.
Anyone who has looked at even ONE page of my blog would guess that red is my favourite colour.. when this came up as the theme for this weeks' Aussie Curves blog hop, I was pretty happy. I was also a bit stumped for choice, because I have so much red stuff...

I decided to go all out and wear red head-to-toe. Despite my love of this colour I don't do this very often, I tend to mix my reds with blacks and greys, and have it pop out as an accent colour. With hair like mine I am always accessorising with red!

So, here it is - everything red! I am wearing a long sleeved tunic top from Target, and a chiffon skirt from Millers, and a patchwork sleeveless tunicdress from St Kilda Markets, and red shoes from Target, and a red belt from City Chic.

As far as makeup goes, I kept things very simple, neutrals on the eyes and of course, a statement red lip! I have blogged about my favourite red lipsticks before, this is my old faithful from Coral Colours.

I also put together some of the other red stuff I have done on the blog. No surprises, there's a lot of it.

Saturday Sweep Up

This week we got into patterned leggings and animal prints, we did our own gel manicures and scoped out brushes, and we also found the ultimate wrinkle solution.. it's been a big week!
What was your favourite post this week?

The big secret: How to Cure Wrinkles. No, seriously, this is IT.

Exhibit A: My normal face.
Note grey roots,
wrinkles on forehead, under  eyes,
around mouth etc.
This is the big one, folks.. seems like everyone out there wants to cure the problem of having wrinkles once and for all. There's millions and billions of dollars devoted to this cause and it seems the goal of eternal youth is one that cosmetic companies have a lot of stock in.

Well.. I don't want to blow my own trumpet or anything.. but I have the cure. No, really, I do.

Are you listening? Here it is...

Review: Lust Have It Sample Box August 2012

The Lust Have It Box has arrived, scraping it in to the tail end of August.. it has arrived once again in a box, which is tied with a ribbon and looks lovely, but is rather more flimsy than the boxed they used to use (before their dalliance with small vanity bags).

Packaging aside, this is full of goodies.. here's what we got:

Review: Bellabox August 2012

My bellabox arrived.. and once again, joy of joys, IT'S A BOX! I was beginning to wonder how I was going to cope with yet another small vanity bag..

The first thing I must mention is the heavenly smell that came wafting out of the box when I opened it. There are a few beautifully scented things and it wasn't a particular one of them, I don't think, just a good combination.. it made me say "OOOoooooO!" before I'd even looked at what was in there.

There's lots of goodies in this, here's what's inside that created an amazing perfume:

Omega's Picks: Domino Dollhouse Urban Mermaid Collection

Domino Dollhouse has done it again - their new collection, called "Urban Mermaids" is full of funky, fashion forward pieces that are a lot more brave than conformist. If you love "statement pieces" and you're not afraid to stand out in a crowd, this is a brand you should become familiar with if you're not already.
Honestly, when I first saw the shots of this collection, I breathed a sigh of relief, it's all pastel and teal and blues and greens and I thought my wallet would be safe! The pieces are gorgeous and I can see how awesome they are, but these are colours I simply don't wear.

I spoke way too soon though, with the second (or maybe third) release of new items look what appeared..
 this amazing party dress.

With ruffles and pleats it's got a real Cyndi Lauper vibe to it.. in a good way. I think it's taking the 80s revival that seems to be in full swing at the moment but making it wearable in a modern context.

I think this would be the perfect dress if you wanted to look both suitably dressed for a semiformal occasion and still look a bit edgy.

Honestly, I don't do strapless, but I love this enough to buy it and go to the trouble of adding straps.. I would just make them just wide enough to cover my bra straps.

I thought I'd show you both the gorgeous posed model shots and the flat lay shots because they both give you quite a different perceptive of the dress.

Which colourway is your favourite - the red or the black?

What we can (and should) learn from Drag Queens..

These amazing photos, of drag queens "half made up" are from the portfolio of Leland Bobbé - they are part of his amazing series called "Half Drag". The rest of the gallery is here: http://lelandbobbe.com/#/18/22 - well worth checking out.

When I look at these, I am not only stunned by how gorgeous these people are, both in their feminine and masculine aspects.. but it really brings home for me the powerful transformative power of makeup. This, in a nutshell is part of why I love makeup so much.

Women who aren't drag queens can learn an awful lot from these artists. I am not suggesting we all adopt the exaggerated looks shown here for a trip down the shops (but if you want to, GO FOR IT, because you will be the most fabulous person in the grocery aisle for sure).. I see these as the makeup equivalent of those large-text books for sight impaired people. Because everything is dramatic and over the top and exaggerated you can see the techniques used really clearly. You can look at what looks you like and how different features are highlighted or disguised...the contouring and shading and highlighting, the curves of colour, the false eyelashes, how different eyebrow shapes show different looks.. the gradients on the lips and the shading  done with the eyeshadows.. there are so many amazing makeup lessons to learn if you examine these.

There's a LOT to learn here. Take a good look and you might see some things you want to try..in a toned down version, or you know, for a total transformation.  Either way, take these incredible glimpses behind the curtain of drag illusion and enjoy!

Sunday Swatch: Chanel InfraRouge Lipstick no 32 Tropic & 36 Sun

Chanel InfraRouge Lipstick - No.36 Sun

Here's two lovely lipsticks I swatched recently at Chanel. As you would expect from a luxury brand they are great quality and offer a colour that is both opaque and highly pigmented and that feels moisturising, but not slick.
Both of these are very wearable colours and even though at $50-$60 a pop they represent a significant investment, they'd both give you faithful years of service.
Chanel: InfraRouge Lipstick - No.32 Tropic
I of course went straight for the brightest red I could see - No 36 "Sun" in their InfraRouge range, and I also swatched a slightly less incandescent tone, No 32 "Tropic".

I liked both of these a lot, and they have earned a place on my wishlist.

Saturday Sweep Up
