Swatched: Jemma Kidd I-Tech Liquid Eyeliner

Swatched these beauties the other day, they are I-Tech Liquid Eyeliners from Jemma Kidd .  I was really impressed with their staying power and the colours are lovely.

The ones I swatched were:

Covert - a bright aqua blue
Contrast - an olive green
Aesthetic - a bronze brown
Abstract - A smokey grey/blue

All of these have glitter in them and stayed on my wrist really well, they needed a really good scrub to get them off - so I think that's a good sign of their epic staying power.

These are definitely on my wish list - what do you think?

Out & About: The Body Shop's Festive Treats

So the other night I was lucky enough to be invited to The Body Shop for a glimpse of their "festive treats" collection - if you follow me on instagram you may have already seen some of my snapshots for the evening.

They shared with us some of the inner workings of how they design and produce their collections, which was fascinating - they showed us their art board/mood board which was just gorgeous, full of vintage drawings and great colours.

There are plenty of cosmetic brands jumping on the green bandwagon, but The Body Shop I think is one of the companies that built the bandwagon! They've had "green" principles embedded in their company for decades, long before it was cool, and it's still inherent in everything they do.

Sponsored Post: Giftmas at Target

So it's that time of year again, when thoughts turn to gift giving. In our house we celebrate "Giftmas" - a season of generosity, giving, largesse and all that's good in the human spirit. We give our time, our attention, our love, and we also give presents. We also try extra hard at this time of year to appreciate the good things we've got, remembering that this can be a particularly difficult time of year for people who are doing it tough.
Some people are doing Christmas, others Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, Yule & Solstice celebrations.. whatever your beliefs it's a time of year where (hopefully) your thoughts turn to your nearest and dearest and the passing of another year.

We keep gifts to a minimum, feeling that a small number of well chosen items is better than the mountains of stuff others seem to go for - I think most of us have quite enough "STUFF" already!
As regular readers know I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the Target official bloggers, and they asked me for this month's post to put together a gift guide..  I thought I'd share what I have my eye on for my family this year.

Aussie Curves: Dark

This week the theme is "Dark". That's home territory for me! To say I have an affinity with the shadows is an understatement.. I've been a goth since my teens, and I have always seen the beauty in darkness. I have a distrust of people who shy away from the darker side of things, as I assume they also shy away from the truth. Without the darkness, none of us would ever see the stars - and that would be a great shame, would it not? People who focus on the lighter things and shun the dark always seem really shallow to me, and even a bit sinister - I tend to have more respect for people who acknowledge the darkness of life and choose to smile and laugh anyway.. that seems a far more honest approach to me.

Review: Lust Have it November 2012

A purple satin bag from Lust Have It! arrived today, and it was full of lovely things..

Here's what we got:

Swatched: BYS Magnetic Nail Enamel (Jupiter and Cobalt)

BYS is a budget brand that packs a punch! I have been interested in magnetic nail polishes long before they were available in Australia, I saw some swatches online and just thought they were really geeky and cool!

Now the trend has filtered right down to the awesome bargain end of the market, so there's really no excuse not to give it a go if you haven't yet.

I got sent two of the BYS magnetic polishes to try - Magnetic Jupiter (Gold) and Magnetic Cobalt (Blue).

The cobalt colour comes out in two lovely shades of blue, it's quite an aquatic look I think, check out some swatches below:

Tutorial: Vintage Glamour with Eles Cosmetics

Eles Cosmetics is a mineral cosmetics brand, and they recently released their "look" for Summer 2012, which they quite rightly called "Vintage Glamour".

Vampy eyes and red, red lips? Of course I loved it instantly! They were kind enough to send me some of the components of the look so I thought I'd have a go at recreating  it.

Automatic Long Lasting Lipliner in Red Earth 012. A really smooth and creamy lip pencil that goes on like a dream and seems very smudge resistant.
The items I got sent and tried out were:

Review: BellaBox November 2012

The November Bellabox is here, and it's a big one.. what did we get?

Review: Komea Radiance 24/7 Youth Boost

I don't normally go for products with hyperbolic names, and "radiance youth boost" is right up there, so to say I examined this with a sceptical eye is an understatement.

I was familiar with Kosmea though, they are a great Australian brand from South Australia and all their stuff has rose-hip oil in it. It tends to really agree with my skin so whenever I come across something new of theirs I'm keen to try it out - I haven't been disappointed yet!

This little jar has been sitting next to my computer, and I've been slathering it on my face and neck every few days.. I like it! Not sure if it is giving me a "youth boost" but it is making my skin feel nice, and I like the way it smells. The bottle says to use it every day and night, I haven't been that vigilant. A little bit goes a long way, I only need two or three drops to cover my whole face and neck.

It's got lots of goodies in it, Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil., Certified Organic Seabuckthorn Oil, Certified Organic Pomegranate Oil, Certified Organic Camellia Oil.. and a lot more besides...and as the lengthy names would suggest the oil is "certified organic".

I've enjoyed using this and when it runs out I will most likely replace it. If you're looking for something "a la natural" to try on your face, you may want to check this option out.

Aussie Curves: Strapless

This week's theme? Strapless. With a bustline like mine, strapless just isn't an option - I need  infrastructure! I have never found a strapless bra that is both effective and not agonisingly painful to wear after a few hours (if you think this is bunk, bra manufacturers, feel free to drop me an email!). Thus it is that the only strapless garments in my wardrobe is my extensive collection of corsetry. So.. let's talk corsets.
I have a couple of dozen that I've collected over the years. There's a lot of cheap "corsets" for sale at the moment, but most of them are really nasty quality  - even the ones that say they have metal bones buckle, sag and fold up, and they won't give you anywhere near the shape alterations that a quality corset will.

Take my advice - spend a little more and invest in something that will last you a decade of regular wear and still look good. Put a quality corset up against one of the cheap ones and the difference is very apparent indeed, both in longevity and how they look while worn.

My favourite corset maker is Gallery Serpentine - they're based in Sydney but send corsets everywhere, and I have had great success with their custom fitted corsets over the years.

The one I am wearing here is their Long Line Femme Fatale, in red brocade, and it laces at both front and back, which gives you a lot of versatility and allows for some pretty extreme waist reduction if that's your thing.

There's a lot of scaremongering that goes about around corsets - most of it is complete bunk. If you're wearing them recreationally and the corset is well made you will do no harm whatsoever to yourself by donning a corset.  I see a tightly laced corset as a temporary form of body modification, it gives you an exaggerated femme silhouette - if you don't have an hourglass shape it will give you the illusion of one, and if you do have one it will make it all the more extreme.

I'm very glad that I live in an era where wearing one of these is a recreational choice, and not a societal expectation, I think it'd be lot less fun to wear if you didn't have the freedom not to. I don corsets for special nights out and I really love wearing them.

Do you own any corsets? Would you like to?

Review: Kiehl's Aromatic Blends - Fig Leaf & Sage

Some luxuries come with a massive price tag. Others, thankfully, do not. I really love having nice things to use in the shower, they make me feel really pampered, and like I am "looking after myself". My shower time is important relaxation and meditation time for me, a chance to get away from everything and everyone just for a little while. Having really nice products to use while I'm there really enhances that experience.

Imagine my delight when I got sent these lovelies to try out from Kiehl's. They have released a new "Aromatic Blends" range. The ones I got are scented with  Fig Leaf and Sage and I couldn't be happier. It is a heavenly botanical scent. I love that this scent isn't too sweet and girly, it means it can be used to make your menfolk smell more delicious too.

I got samples of all three products available in the range - the Skin-softening Aromatic Body Cleanser, the skin-softening Aromatic Body Cream and the Aromatic Mist.  The wash makes a nice lather despite being sulphate free and the body cream manages to both feel ultra rich but not cloying on the skin. The perfume/mist is a nice addition, by using all three you can layer the scent so it lasts a lot longer.

If sage and fig isn't your think there are several other varieties to choose from,  Orange Flower & Lychee,
Vanilla & Sandalwood and Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit. I'll stick with Fig Leaf and Sage, as it's quite bowled me over.

From Lookbook to Streetlook: Virtu

It's time again for another edition of "From Lookbook to Street Look" - a regular series here at Fashion Adjacent where I show you an item two ways - worn by a gorgeous model and styled by the brands' best.. and worn by me!
I got a package from Virtu the other day, and inside was this lovely tunic top, it's called the Stephanie Tunic. As you can see from the picture it is nice and long and has pleating at the front. What you can't see in this picture is that the pleats are in the back too, and that this is made from a cotton/linen mix, so it is really lovely to wear.
They've done something brilliant with the fabric mix so that despite the fact it's natural fibres this doesn't crease.. how they have managed that, I'm not sure, but I really like it!
So how did I wear this?
Well, also in the package was a cute red obi belt from  TS14+  which goes really well with the top. It can be worn a number of ways, but I opted to tie a decorative knot in the front of it and simply wrap the ends around the back.  I teamed it with my red jeans from City Chic, flats from Target and a long beaded necklace.
This is as close to "jeans and tshirt" as I get - I am not very good at casual.. but this was comfy and fun to wear. I think this is going to see a lot of wear in the warmer months ahead, it just breathes so nicely and is cool and comfortable.
I put my hair up into a ponytail and added a couple of flowers, just because it was a beautiful day and wearing flowers in the springtime always seems right.

I can see this top becoming a staple of my summer wardrobe - it's also available in green and blue if you'd like some other colours. Me, I'll stick to black, thanks.
