Brand to Watch: Boohoo Plus

Here's some picks from Boohoo - they keep on expanding their "Boohoo Plus" range, and there seems to be some nice stuff there at some pretty attractive price points..

I  reallly wish their models were a bit more "plus size" as it's hard to imagine what these would look like on someone size 20+. I always feel more confident buying when the models look more like me. I do appreciate the mixture of front and back views, and the flatlay pictures, all which allow zoom-in so you can really see the details.

Here's what's in stock now that caught my eye:

Plus Lilly Suedette Wrap Midi Skirt:

Plus Bella Contrast Panelled Midi Dress:

Plus Eliza Quilted Faux Leather Biker Jacket:
Plus Orla High Neck Tie Waist Tunic Top:
They seem to have regular discounts and sales so if you're looking to pick up some itmes it's probably well worth subscribing to their newsletter ad/or checking their facebook page for discunt codes before buying.

Review: ModelCo Fat Lash Volumising Black Mascara

Today I wanted to show you something that has been doing a lot of duty in my makeup cabinet -  it's the Fat Lash volumising black mascara from ModelCo.

I tend to oscillate between defining and volumising mascaras depending on what look I'm going for  - this one is one of the best volumising mascaras I 've ever come across.

The formula seems to thicken without being overly clumpy, so that's definitely part of what makes it work, but I suspect the brush has even more to do with it - it has a little spiky ball  on the end of the brush that is just perfect for getting lashes that a regular brush would miss.

This really does give a "false lash"effect, it's really dramatic, and I've been asked more than once if I I had gotten eyelash extensions when I've been wearing this.

Regular readers will know I'm not a huge fan of pink - this is as pink as it gets, packaging wise - the anodised hot pink finish and the hefty size of this makes it easy to find in the makeup drawer. Thankfully, the mascara isn't pink, or a wish-wasy brown  (as some "black" mascaras are), it's a true opaque black.

I'm really happy with this - when I am wanting to go for a lash look with serious drama, this is my go-to.

iFOTD: Goffed up for Goffee

Amongst the many events I run is a monthly get-together for those in the alt/goth crowd, it's always a good time. Because we're silly, we call it Goffee - because goths + coffee..
I always like to experiment with my makeup, and go a bit spooky, because, well, why not!

To do this look I used:

My love of duochrome eyeshadows continues, at the moment I can't get enough of the purple Wicked eyeshadow from Concrete - with the purple streaks currently in my hair I've been wearing more purple makeup, and this is a subtle but glowy option :)

I went with a double wing - the very dark red gel eyeliner that I've been favouring lately and some peacock coloured Siren's Song as well.

Of course I had to go vampy with my lip, because I knew I'd be eating and drinking I went with the liquid lipstick for a stay-there base and topped it up with Noir Red for extra shine and dimension.

Review: Lush Cupcake Face Mask

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a blogger event called "Glamour Affair" not too long ago, and one of my favourite parts of the day was a visit from the team at Lush. They made, right before our eyes, a fresh face mask product for us to take home.

It's the Cupcake Face Mask, and it smells like chocolate heaven. It even has real chocolate in it! But you can't eat it.. instead you can smear it on your face.

It's really quite a fetching look, I must say!

It feels a bit like a mud/clay mask on the skin, not surprising considering one of the major ingredients is Rhassoul Mud.

Lush describe the mask as follows:

Chocolate heaven for oily and teenage skin. Its action removes excess oil and calms breakouts. Rhassoul mud cleans and soothes, linseed, cocoa butter and cocoa powder soften the skin. Balancing peppermint, spearmint and sandalwood oils complete this effective and delicious experience. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for five to ten minutes, and then rinse away with warm water. Keep chilled.

Having been to Vietnam and back for work recently I've definitely not been as nice as usual to my skin, and it as responded by getting oily and breaking out a bit so this is just what the doctor ordered, I think.

I really enjoyed using this - it was like having a very indulgent chocolate treat, but one that was nice to my skin, instead of the usual result of eating a lot of chocolate!

This is one I will definately be keeping an eye out for in the lush store.

Wild Makeup: Wild Fire Summer Fairy

It's been a while since I did a wild look..  The Midsummer Fairy Rede, Melbourne's biggest Fairy Parade was an excellent opportunity to go all out..
Our household decided on a seasonal theme - I was a Summer themed Fire Fairy..
For this I wanted to be really bright, so I went straight for the professional pigments. I used Concrete Minerals in (L to R): Vegas, Risqué, Ember and Fame
I also used Medusa Makeup Gel Eyeliner in Redy or Not for extra oomph and saving power on the red.
I needed my lip colour to last all day, so I used the super long lasting liquid lipstick from Menow - this one is No 33 Currant Red.  - I added a touch of Fame for an ombre look.

We also made headdresses and wings, which was a lot of fun, and a great way to prototype up some more stuff for Adored Adornments

My daughter was a Winter Ice Fairy, and her makeup required a more subtle palate..

From left to right:

Farore's Wind - Shiro Cosmetics
Quantum - AFK Cosmetics
Diamond Dust & Element Zero - Geek Chic Cosmetics
Lexington - Glamour Doll Eyes

For the snowflakes and white detailing, I turned again to the Medusa Makeup Gel Eyeliners - this time in "White Noise".

The wings and headdresses will be up for sale in Adored Adornments in the next few days. We had such a lot of fun at the parade, and ended up walking just under 7km, quite the workout!

Brand to Watch: Nakimuli

There is nothing more likely to grab my attention than a gorgeous red dress.. this one is made of neoprene, which is what's making the skirt hang so beautifully, really showing off that amazing asymmetrical hem.

Of course I had to find out who made it and if it was available, and my search yielded the very pleasant result.

Its a gorgeous brand called Nakimuli. They're based in the US but they do ship internationally (hooray!) Their sizing goes up to a 3X which they describe as a US 22-24. All the clothes are modled by both straight size and plus size models which is a lovely touch. The styke of the red dress is called the "Mambo" dress, and it certainly looks like it'd inspire the wearer to dance, don't you think?

I also liked this wrap jacket:

The "Mambo" style also comes in a skirt as well, in some lovely prints.

And this is an adjustable swimsuit that can be worn all sorts of ways:

I am really liking what I see from this label, and I was also pleased to see that a lot of this stuff is on sale at the moment which is a nice added bonus. You can have a look for yourself here.

People love PBLC - their lipsticks have amazing, hard-to-find colours, and the formulation is that wonderful combination of great opaque colour that lasts really well, and a lovely moisturising effect for the lips.
